Arrival & departure

From the moment you land at Kathmandu until we wave you off — exactly what to expect.

Almost every Khrego journey begins and ends at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu. Here’s how arrival, visas, transfers and departure work, so there are no surprises on day one.

Tourist visa on arrival

Most nationalities can get a Nepal tourist visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport. You fill a form (or use the kiosks), pay the fee in cash, and collect your visa stamp.

As a guide, fees are roughly USD 30 (15 days), 50 (30 days), 125 (90 days) — but these can change, so always confirm at the official source: immigration.gov.np. A few nationalities must arrange a visa in advance — check before you fly.

What to have ready

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months
  • A couple of passport-size photos
  • Visa fee in cash (USD preferred)
  • Your hotel address (we provide it)

Airport pickup

A Khrego representative will be waiting in the arrivals area with a name board. We transfer you to your hotel, help you settle in, and confirm the plan. If your flight is delayed, don’t worry — we track it.

Your first day in Kathmandu

We build in time in Kathmandu before trekking — to rest off jet lag, complete permits (TIMS and any national-park cards), do a final gear check, and meet your guide. Trek briefings happen here.

Domestic & mountain flights

Some treks start with a domestic flight (e.g. Lukla for Everest). These are weather-dependent and can shift by a day — which is exactly why we recommend a buffer day at the end of your trip.

Departure day

We transfer you back to the airport with plenty of time for international check-in. If you have a late flight, we can arrange a day room, city tour or shopping time — just ask.

Please plan a buffer day. Mountain weather occasionally delays flights in and out of high regions. One or two spare days at the end of your trip protects your onward international flight and keeps the journey stress-free.
